Have you ever observed some tiny white spots in your throat? You might try doing this as you experience difficulty in swallowing and a bit of sore throat. These little white substances in your throat are tonsil stones. Generally, it can take years before you realize you even have this problem. Despite brushing your teeth even five times a day, bad breath will still occur when you have white spots on your throat, which makes tonsil stones treatment even more important.
These stones are also called tonsilolliths. They start from just smooth crypts with shallow pockets. Soon, they become rough and deep pockets. The tonsil crypts start opening and that what makes its pockets big and deep. This condition soon starts getting worse with a lot of debris accumulating in the tonsil crypts. The food that we eat gets accumulated in the pockets. They become bigger and bigger over time. Believe it or not, some tonsil stones grow as big as a marble. This can cause swelling real pain.
Fortunately, there is a lot of tonsil stones treatment out there. It is extremely important that you know what they are. There are many options on how they could be removed.
If lucky enough, you could just cough them off and avoid the hassles of tonsil stones treatment. However, in most cases, they really do stick in the throat and are hard to remove. There are many people who remove their tonsil stones with their fingers by scratching them. This practice is not hygienic. There are also people who take risks by using pointed objects. Never think about doing any one of both.
However, if you are really serious of removing them manually, you must at least wash your hands with a bacterial soap before putting them in your mouth. With this, you could prevent possible occurrence of infections. But rather than using fingernails to remove them, you could use cotton buds. These are more effective than your bare fingers. These are safer as well. You can simply scrape out all of the stones without causing any harm to your tonsils.
There are cases when the existence of tonsil stones become chronic or persistent for a very long time. If this is what you experience, seek the assistance of a doctor. When the stones get stuck at the back of the throat, you cannot just remove them anymore. The doctors can recommend medications like mouth sprays. If the problem is in its worst condition, doctors recommend surgery or tonsillectomy to be specific. This procedure is very costly but is sure to counter the problem. Thus, you have to do everything to stop tonsil stones before they become uncontrollable.
