Who Goes To The Cosmetic Dentist

A cosmetic dentist is a popular DDS specialist. He or she is a well trained oral health care practitioner who focuses on enhancing or repairing the appearance of his or her patients' smiles. In order to become certified as a professional dentist, these individuals must attend four years of undergraduate university studies before even applying to graduate dental college. It is likely that the DDS-to-be is a science and math brained individual who studied chemistry, anatomy, physiology and biology in undergrad years. Being adept in communication and psychology is helpful, as well. The cosmetic specialist should also have an eye for harmony and beauty. He or she is an artist as well as a doctor. DDS stands for doctor of dental surgery. This professional is a doctor just like an MD and is highly skilled in his or her craft. The cosmetic dental specialist is highly sought after and gaining popularity with mainstream Americans. Who goes to this oral health care practitioner?
- Cigarette smokers: Cigarette smoking causes the enamel of each tooth to turn yellow over time. A yellowed appearance when smiling isn't very attractive. Smokers or those who have recently quit using tobacco products are prime candidates for this dentistry practice. Dental bleaching can be achieved via gel, strips or liquids.
- Coffee or black tea drinkers: Both coffee and black tea can stain teeth over time. This dingy appearance can be alleviated by bleach treatments. Whitening and brightening is a boon to coffee and tea drinkers' grins.
- Jagged snaggletooth: Broken or snaggletooth jags can be evened up with crowns, caps or porcelain veneer. No more zigzag edges after this dental expert fixes the problem.
- Crooked and misaligned teeth: A cosmetic dentistry practice often has an orthodontist on staff to bring crookedness into alignment. Metal braces can be used as they have for years or a newer product may do the trick. Invisalign is a removable set of trays which can be taken out to eat, get x-rays or have teeth cleaned. Colorful plastic bands are a new option that is very popular with the younger set.
- Discoloration: Individuals who suffer from discoloration may hide their grins from public view. Spots or lines are embarrassing and unattractive. This problem can occur due to genetic flaws or side effects of prescription medications. Bleaching, porcelain veneers or other treatments may provide relief for these patients.
- Middle aged or elderly: Aging can turn enamel dull, yellowed and make the older individual look more ancient than necessary. Bright white smiles are youthful looking and this can be accomplished with a trip to the cosmetic dentist.
- Braces just removed: After teeth have been straightened by metal bands, the enamel may have lines of stain as a result. This can be erased with a series of bleaching sessions.
Many individuals frequent the cosmetic dentist office to sit in the treatment chair. Cigarette smokers, coffee and tea drinkers, older individuals, those with crooked teeth or those who have just had their metal braces removed all can benefit by treatment appointments to enhance and improve the appearance of their smiles.

  4. I've never been to cosmetic dentist, all my family have good teeth, I guess genetically. Never used any teeth whitening products too, just normal oral hygiene.
